Report: Tom Izzo Leaning Toward Taking Cavaliers Job

Stay connected for news and updates

ESPN's Andy Katz spoke with somebody who said that Tom Izzo is very much considering the Cleveland Cavaliers job. In fact, Izzo may actually be leaning toward taking the job right now if he receives an offer.

That source discussed Izzo's future with a close confidant of Izzo, who is coaching in the NBA. The source told Katz that Izzo, who talked to his team earlier this week about his interest in the Cavaliers, is leaning toward taking the job if it is offered.

"Three weeks ago that wasn't the case, but it has changed,'' said the source.

Although Byron Scott has emerged as a serious candidate for the job, you would have to imagine that Izzo is option A for the Cavaliers. He has the connection with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and he is the one flying into Cleveland later today to meet with the team. There have already been reports that Izzo and Gilbert have talked about the parameters of a deal, so I have to imagine that this in-person meeting will culminate with an official offer.
