The Detroit Red Wings feel strongly about their 2010 NHL Draft class. A lot of the time, fans don't hear about players drafted again after the day they're taken by their favorite teams, but the Red Wings have been inking their 2010 picks left and right this offseason.
Calle Jarnkrok has been signed to a three-year, entry-level contract as of Wednesday, according to the Red Wings' official website. Jarnkrok was impressive in the World Championship in Stockholm, making the Swedish team at 20 years-old, and he played well. Stat-wise, he just had an assist, but also won 67 percent of the face-offs that he took.
Jarnkrok was a second-round pick by the Red Wings in 2010, and has scored 31 goals and 45 assists in 132 games with Brynas, finishing his third Elitserien season. It'll be a bit before we see him on ice for the Red Wings, and he'll spent some more time with Brynas.
He joins Riley Sheahan, Louis-Marc Aubry, Teemu Pulkkinen and Petr Mrazek as players signed from the Red Wings' 2010 draft. The team feels strongly about all of those players, though it's obviously unlikely that we see all or even most of them on Detroit's roster in the near future.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Detroit Red Wings announced via their official twitter account that the team has come to terms with 2010 fourth-round draft selection Teemu Pulkkinen with a three-year entry level contract. Pulkkinen is a 20-year old, 5-foot-10, 198 pound left winger and was the 111th overall selection in the draft.
The Red Wings have signed Teemu Pulkkinen to a three-year entry level contract. He was a 4th round pick (111th overall) in the 2010 Draft.

He has been playing for Jokerit of the SM-liiga, which is the top professional hockey league in Finland and the second strongest league in all of Europe, according to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). After playing only 15 games in his first two years, Pulkkinen played in 55 games in 2010-11 and registered 18 goals and 36 assists for a total of 54 points.
In 2012, he played for Finland at the Junior World Championships and scored four goals in the third period of a game against Denmark, which tied a record for most goals in a period of a World Juniors game.

The Detroit Red Wings have signed 2010 first-round pick Riley Sheahan to a three-year entry level contract, according to the Red Wings' official Twitter account.
The tweet read thus:
NEWS: The Red Wings have signed Riley Sheahan to a three year entry level contract. Per club policy, terms are undisclosed.
— Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) April 5, 2012
Sheahan, who recently finished his college career at Notre Dame, signed a tryout contract on March 20 and had been playing with the Wings' AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids.
It is unlikely that Sheahan will suit up for Detroit in either of the final two regular season game or in the postseason. Still, he will likely be part of the group that practices with the team during the playoffs.

The Detroit Red Wings are taking steps to bring some of that young talent closer to the professional game. The NHL Draft is a lot different than a lot of professional leagues out there - many of the guys never see the NHL, but you generally do expect the first-round pick to pan out in some form or another. In 2010, the Detroit Red Wings made Riley Sheahan their first-round pick, taking him 21st overall.
Now, Sheahan is getting closer and closer to the big game. Ansar Khan reported on Twitter that Sheahan has signed an amateur tryout contract with the Grand Rapid Griffins. Sheahan was very, very raw for a first-round pick when the Red Wings claimed him in the draft, with just six goals that season, but he was a freshman and has definitely improved since then.
His biggest assets are his skills on the power play, an area the Red Wings have been off and on with in recent years, though that's somewhat irrelevant because Sheahan has a long way to go with the Griffins. Still, it's definitely a good sign that he's making progress.

The 2010 NHL Draft wrapped up on Saturday, and quite a few players with Michigan ties were selected.
As already mentioned, Jon Merrill, who is going to play at the University of Michigan next season, was drafted 38th overall by the New Jersey Devils. Another future Wolverine (class of 2011), Alex Guptill, ended up being drafted in the third round by the Dallas Stars (77th overall pick). Luke Moffatt, who will join Merrill at Michigan this fall, was selected in the seventh round by the Avalanche.
In addition to the three future Wolverines, Lee Moffie, a player already on the team, was selected as well (in the seventh round by the Sharks).
One other draftee worth mentioning is Brandon Archibald, who was picked by the Blue Jackets in the fourth round. Archibald, like Jack Campbell, is a Port Huron native, giving the city a total of two picks in this year's NHL Draft.

With the 51st pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, the Detroit Red Wings selected Calle Jarnkrok, a center from Sweden. Jarnkrok's favorite team is actually the Red Wings and his favorite player is Henrik Zetterberg, so I'm sure he is absolutely thrilled with being picked by Detroit.
Via Ansar Khan, here is a brief scouting report on Jarnkrok:
"He's small, but extremely skillful. A very fast skater, very quick moves, good hands -- he's an exciting player, great attitude."

Defenseman Jon Merrill became Michigan's first incoming recruit to be picked in the 2010 NHL Draft when the Devils selected him in the second round. Merrill was once expected to be a first-round pick, but some character concerns dropped his stock and he wasn't taken until the 38th overall selection.
New Jersey has drafted 12 Michigan players over the years, including Brandon Burlon and David Wohlberg, both of whom are still in Ann Arbor and will be teammates with Merrill next season.

Port Huron native Jack Campbell was picked 11th by the Dallas Stars in the first round of the NHL Draft on Friday. Campbell was the first goalie and first American-born player selected during the draft.
For University of Michigan hockey fans, this pick is a little bittersweet. Campbell had been committed to play hockey at Michigan for quite some time, but he ultimately decided to go play in the OHL instead. Campbell explained that he didn't want to go to Michigan for only a year and then leave early on in his career. As a Michigan hockey fan, I would have been more than happy with getting a year out of Campbell, as he truly is one of the top young goalies in all of hockey.
It isn't expected that Campbell will immediately make the jump to the NHL or anything, but if he lives up to his potential, he probably will be suiting up for the Stars in a few years at the most.

The Detroit Red Wings took Notre Dame center Riley Sheahan with the 21st pick the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, their highest selection since 2005.
Sheahan had a modest six goals and 11 assists last season for the Irish, but he's just a freshman and has plenty of upside. He turned 18 in December and can put a lot more muscle on his 6'2 200 pound frame in his remaining time at Notre Dame.
Sheahan's selection is the highest pick in the draft for Detroit since they took Jakub Kindl 19th overall in 2005. Kindl is now considered a good candidate to make the roster next season.
