More Celebrity Softball!

Summer is a time for baseball, hitting the links and the great American pastime: celebrity softball games.

Darren McCarty and Joe Kocur are among the former Detroit athletes confirmed to participate in the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association's second annual event. The game will be held on Aug. 7 at Duck Lake Pines Park in Highland, with the gates opening at 10:30 a.m.

Former Red Wing Kevin Miller is in the game along with Michigan NHL players Brian Smolinski, Wayne Presley, and Pat Peake. Former Tigers pitcher Dave Rozema is also a confirmed participant. The former Detroit athletes will square off against Oakland County law enforcement and fire officials. 

Proceeds from the game will benefit local charities such as Justice for Dominick Calhoun Inc., Wings of Mercy East Michigan and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Tickets can be purchased for $10 in advance at the Milford and White Lake Fire Departments, the South Lyon Hotel and the Comeback Inn of Highland. You can also buy online at www.wingseastmi.org. Children under 10 get in free.
