Lions Place Jordon Dizon On Injured Reserve, Re-Sign LB Lee Campbell

The Lions have confirmed that linebacker Jordon Dizon, who seriously injured his knee against the Steelers on Sunday, is out for the season. Dizon was placed on injured reserve today, officially bringing his 2010 campaign to a close before it really even got started.

To add some depth at linebacker and fill Dizon's spot on the roster, the Lions brought back Lee Campbell, who was released on July 31. Campbell was picked up in June off waivers after the Giants let him go, but he was released at the start of training camp to make room on the roster for Isaiah Ekejiuba. With a need at linebacker popping up because of Dizon's injury, the Lions decided to simply bring back a familiar face.

Campbell is in his first year in the league as an undrafted player from Minnesota.

Linebacker Jordon Dizon Out For Season With Knee Injury

The Lions' already thin linebacking corps got a little thinner on Saturday night when Jordon Dizon went down with what appeared to be a serious knee injury. Jim Schwartz confirmed after the game that it was indeed "serious," and Lions beat writer Tom Kowalski is reporting that it's season-ending serious:

Detroit Lions linebacker Jordon Dizon suffered a knee injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and will be lost for the season.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz called the injury "serious,'' but did not confirm that it's a season-ending injury. Dizon, however, told several people after the game that he wouldn't be returning this year.

Dizon started at middle linebacker tonight against the Pittsburgh Steelers because DeAndre Levy was sitting with back problems that have kept him sidelined for most of camp thus far. Levy shouldn't miss much more time and is supposed to be more than ready to start the season at the Mike, but Dizon was to provide much needed insurance if the back injuries lingered, and the back is a delicate one. Dizon is also a regular during nickel packages and on special teams.

The Lions will undoubtedly have to make a move to strengthen a position that was already one of their weakest. Schwartz said that's exactly what the team will do, if Dizon is in fact done for the year. We'll keep you posted when more details become available.
