Matthew Stafford, Cliff Avril Banged Up Against Bears

Stay connected for news and updates

The last minute and a half or so of the first half went about as bad as possible for the Lions.

After leading 14-3, the Bears started battling back with an 89-yard touchdown pass to Matt Forte. As if that wasn't bad enough, Cliff Avril appeared to injure his knee on the extra point and had to be helped off the field. He was limping big time, suggesting that it could be a serious injury.

Things got even worse for the Lions on the next drive. Matthew Stafford got destroyed by Julius Peppers from behind and landed on the ground awkwardly. He fumbled and Chicago recovered, leading to a Bears field goal.

Stafford was holding his shoulder gingerly after the play and took his jersey and shoulder pads off before halftime. It's unclear right now how serious the injury is, but anything to a quarterback's throwing shoulder is scary, so there is a big concern with Stafford's health, to say the least.
