Darryl Stonum Suspended Indefinitely From Michigan Football Team

The Detroit News' Angelique Chengelis is reporting that Michigan wide receiver Darryl Stonum has been suspended indefinitely. The source of this news is Michigan head coach Brady Hoke, who said Stonum could return "if he fulfills all of the commitments to the legal system and our program."

This is far from the first time Stonum has been in trouble with the legal system. Last summer, Stonum spent three days in jail for having numerous probation violations. Those violations stemmed from not completing responsibilities that came along with his sentence for an operating while visibly impaired arrest. He had a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 at the time of his arrest (it happened in September 2008 on the night of the comeback win over Wisconsin), and he was only 18 years old.

Stonum's punishment for the OWI arrest included a fine, community service, one-game suspension and probation. Any punishment he received for the probation violations that landed him in jail were handled internally as far as I know.

Now Stonum is apparently in trouble with the law yet again, and Hoke has decided to suspend him indefinitely. The door to return appears open, but it seems Stonum will first have to work his way back into the good graces of the coaches.
