The Michigan State Spartans dropped a bit in the Big 10 race after those two straight losses to the Northwestern Wildcats and rival Michigan Wolverines, but made up for it by absolutely demolishing the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday. The Spartans can put together a winning streak again Wednesday night at home as they face a dangerous Minnesota Golden Gophers team at 8:30 EST.
The Gophers have strung together three straight wins after faltering in their first four in Big 10 play. They've been led by dangerous rookie Joe Coleman along with old guard senior Trevor Mbakwe in their winning streak, which included a win against the eighth ranked Indiana Hoosiers. Michigan State's powerful offense led by Draymore Green should be able to take on Minnesota; the Spartans have scored six more points per game on average.
At 5-2 in Big 10 play, the Spartans sit in third place. Wins against the lower level teams like 3-4 Minnesota need to become automatic if Sparty hopes to be at the top of the table come season's end.
