Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey signed to play with the Central Hockey League's Denver Cutthroats.

With the NHL lockout keeping him out of work, Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey signed to play for the Central Hockey League's Denver Cutthroats, according to Cutthroats coach Derek Armstrong:

"Good friend of mine, and a real community-oriented guy. He wanted to give back to the community," Armstrong said of Quincey. "When I met him he was a kid in the NHL and we sat next to each other in the locker room in L.A. He told me last summer if this thing happened (NHL lockout) he would like to play for me. Of course, he wants to stay in shape and be ready when the (NHL) season starts, but it was really about giving back to the community and believing in what we're doing for the community here."

Quincey recently signed a two-year, $7.55 million deal with the Red Wings, but his career in Detroit is on hold until the NHL comes to an agreement with the NHLPA. Quincey was traded to the Red Wings from the Colorado Avalanche last season, and he still lives in Denver during the offseason.

Quincey will join the Cutthroats Monday after the team returns from its two-game exhibition road trip. Denver opens its CHL regular season with an Oct. 19 home date against the Missouri Mavericks.
