After dropping their first contest Friday night, the Michigan State Spartans rebounded Saturday in front of a record crowd of more than 7,000 fans at Munn Ice Arena by trouncing the Michigan Wolverines, 7-2.

Matt Berry got the Spartans on the board first, scoring 34 seconds into the game with assists from Matt DeBlouw and Brent Darnell. Darnell followed with a goal of his own, 6:36 into the game, and Anthony Hayes netted another only seconds later to put the game at 3-0 less than seven minutes in. Berry, who finished the night as the game's No. 1 star, scored three goals and had one assist.

Michigan scored a power play goal midway through the first period to cut the deficit to two, but the Spartans' lead was quickly extended again on a powerplay goal of their own from Berry.

Goaltender Jake Hildebrand picked up the win, allowing two goals and stopping 40 shots from the Wolverines' offense.

Michigan State travels next weekend to play Miami (OH), while the Wolverines prepare for a series against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
