The two week festival was to take place at Comerica Park.

With the cancellation of the 2013 NHL Winter Classic, the National Hockey League also announced the cancellation of the Hockeytown Winter Festival.

The NHL Winter Classic was set to take place on Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, MI, while the Hockeytown Winter Festival was to be a two week event scheduled for Dec. 16-31 at Comerica Park in Detroit. Among the scheduled events were alumni games featuring the alumni of the Red Wings and Maple Leafs played on a rink constructed between the infield and outfield of Comerica Park.

Instead, the University of Michigan and Comerica Park will serve as host of the 2013 Hockeytown Winter Festival and 2014 NHL Winter Classic.

The cancellation comes as a result of an NHL lockout that began on Sept. 15 and the cancellation of many weeks of the season that was set to begin on Oct. 11. No agreement between the NHL and NHLPA has been reached yet.
