Lions vs. Jaguars 2012: Detroit enjoys first comfortable win of season

Sam Greenwood

The Detroit Lions have made a habit of one-score games this season, but they avoided the trend Sunday, coasting to a dominant 31-14 victory over Jacksonville.

The Detroit Lions defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, 31-14, in a refreshing change of pace from the usual one-score affairs.

Each of the Lions' first seven games were decided by one score, two of which were in overtime. On Sunday, however, the Lions avoided the pressure of a close game as they jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead, and comfortably coasted to a three-score victory.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford reached the 10,000-yard career passing mark Sunday, wide receiver Calvin Johnson had 129 receiving yards, and running back Mikel Leshoure scored three times in the win. Sean Yuille of SB Nation's Detroit Lions blog, Pride of Detroit, writes that Sunday was Detroit's first truly great offensive performance of 2012:

While Jacksonville is obviously one of the worst teams in the NFL right now, this was an impressive win by the Lions. It was their first comfortable win of the season, and really it was their first all-around solid effort since 2011. The offense played extremely well, as did the defense.

The Lions moved to 4-4 on the season as they head into a divisional matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, who currently sit one game ahead of Detroit in the NFC North standings.
