Mikel Leshoure says Riley Reiff is a 'beast'

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure had high praise for rookie Riley Reiff, who he ran behind for three rushing touchdowns Sunday.

Detroit Lions' running back Mikel Leshoure scored three touchdowns in the victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, but according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, after the game he wasn't letting it go to his head. He was busy praising offensive lineman Riley Reiff:

"Riley's a beast. I just told him that (in the locker room after the game). He's a monster. He doesn't complain about playing time. When he gets in, his number's called, he do what he has to do. And we're happy to have him on our team."

Reiff was the first-round selection of the Detroit Lions in the 2012 NFL Draft, No. 23 overall out of the University of Iowa. He has yet to crack the starting lineup and is slotted as the sixth offensive lineman, but he played 26 snaps Sunday and was on the field for each of Leshoure's three scores.

Head coach Jim Schwartz said after the game that starter or non-starter, Reiff is a key member of the Lions' offense:

"He does a good job blocking point of attack, he does a good job blocking on the edge and he does a good job pass protecting when we call passes with it."

Reiff was the second offensive lineman selected in this past draft and one of four selected in the first round. He was picked after only USC tackle Matt Kalil, who went at No. 4 to the Minnesota Vikings.
