Amari Spievey injury: Lions safety not yet cleared to return from concussion

Detroit Lions safety Amari Spievey has not passed the concussion tests that will make him eligible to return to the football field.

Detroit Lions safety Amari Spievey is not yet cleared to return from his concussion injury, but the Lions are still hopeful that he will. WXYZ reporter Brad Galli tweeted out the most recent update on the safety's status:

Detroit announced that running back Jahvid Best will not play football this season after failing to pass concussion tests. Although Spievey has yet to pass the tests himself, he has not been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Spievey suffered his second concussion since January in Detroit's Monday night loss against the Chicago Bears. The safety played part of the Lions playoff game against the New Orleans Saints with a concussion, and had to miss the first few weeks of organized team activity earlier this season.

The Lions' secondary is banged up, as fellow safety Louis Delmas also sat in last week's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, however, is more optimistic about Delmas' return.
