The Daytona 500 got a late start, and now it does not want to end.
After the original Sunday afternoon start was postponed until Monday, the race started on Monday with a crash on lap two, and now it has at least momentarily stopped due to a fire ignited by Juan Montoya slamming into a safety truck. Cars are stopped, and the race is under a red flag, via Jeff Gluck at SB Nation.
Michigan native Brad Keselowski, currently in 14th place, has kept busy during the stoppage by tweeting. Here is one of his latest tweets.

Dave Blaney currently sits in first place, and as Jeff Gluck tweets, Blaney has never won in 398 Sprint Cup Series races. The race is past the midway point, so if they cannot finish it tonight, Blaney will indeed be the winner.

For the first time in the Daytona 500's 54-year history, the race has been postponed. The green flag will now drop at noon ET on Monday, reports SB Nation's Jeff Gluck:
OFFICIAL: DAYTONA 500 POSTPONED until noon tomorrow. #NASCAR

It had been raining for most of the day, which made it dangerous for cars on the track. After delaying the start of the race for a few hours, there was a point when the track began its drying process, but the rain just picked up again.
Though the race is scheduled for noon on Monday, it may not be possible to get the race in since thunderstorms, or at least rain, is expected. There might be a window on Monday night for the race to happen, but if not, Tuesday appears to have clear skies ahead.

How is this for anti-climactic start to the racing season? Rain has delayed the start of the Daytona 500 for Brad Keselowski and the other 42 racers.
No official word has yet has been released about whether the race will start today or need to be postponed, but as things stand it is not looking very promising, via Brian Neudorff of SBNation.com.
There is so much rain and moisture coming in off the Gulf and it is heading in a more easterly direction. It is riding a stalled boundary like a train on railroad tracks.
It is appearing more and more likely we won't see the Daytona 500 on Sunday.
If the race does not start today, it could be rescheduled for Monday. However, the weather forecast also calls for rain on Monday, leaving open the possibility that the Daytona 500 could be pushed all the way back to Tuesday.

Michigan native Brad Keselowski gave his hometown fans reason to believe that he has a real chance to make a run during the Daytona 500 after he posted the fastest 10-lap average during practice on Friday, via SI.com.
Keselowski averaged 195.898 mph during the second of two sessions at Daytona International Speedway. Busch averaged 195.895 mph. Clint Bowyer was third, followed by Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano and Mark Martin. Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr. and AJ Allmendinger rounded out the top 10.
Kaselowski will start in the 23rd position in the starting grid. Here is the complete starting lineup for the 2012 Daytona 500, which is currently delayed due to rain:

Brad Keselowski: Michigan native Brad Keselowski will start in the 23rd position in the grid of NASCAR's biggest race, which is scheduled for today. And after crashing in practice on Wednesday, Keselowski has said that he is "most nervous" about the final lap of the race, via SpeedTV.
"When I look at the sport and I look at the most dangerous frontier, it's not the next head-and-neck system, it's getting hit from a car who is six or seven seconds from a wreck but has to keep going because the yellow is not out," Keselowski said. "It eventually will happen where they'll hit a very slow car at a very high rate of speed and it will not be good.
There is reason for optimism if you are a Kaselowski fan: He posted the fastest 10-lap average during practice on Friday, edging Kyle Busch, via SI.com.
What time does the Daytona 500 actually start? The Daytona 500 is listed as an 1 p.m. Eastern start time, but the green flag is not scheduled to fly until 1:29 p.m. Eastern. However, rain has delayed the start of the event.

The Daytona 500 Qualifying took place on Sunday afternoon. The time trials were to determine the pole and outside pole positions for next week's kickoff to the 2012 Sprint Cup season, as well as allowing four drivers to earn berths in the race.
The end results were very close, but Carl Edwards bested Roush Fenway Racing teammate Greg Biffle by just one-tenth of a second to determine the front row for next Sunday's race at Daytona International Speedway.
Bred Keselowski came in 19th in the qualifying on Sunday, but please note that the qualifying results do not determine the final starting lineup in the Daytona 500. This week will still see the Duels that will set the final grid prior to Sunday.
Here are the full results from qualifying (non-guaranteed drivers in bold):
