Red Wings Vs. Canucks Final Score: Detroit's Record Streak Ends As Vancouver Wins Shootout Thriller, 4-3

The Detroit Red Wings were just 16 seconds away from increasing its NHL-record home winning streak to 24, but all good things most come sometime and it did Thursday night, when Vancouver Canucks right-winger Alexander Burrows shoveled a backhander past Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard in the third round of a shootout.

The tally resulted in a 4-3 final score in favor of the visiting team and ended the Red Wings' home winning streak at the Joe Louis Arena at 23.

The mark, which began on Nov. 5 with a 5-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks, ends as the NHL's single-season and overall record. The last loss for Detroit at home came in a loss to the Calgary Flames on Nov. 3.

Again, Detroit was just seconds away from extending its streak, but with the clock ticking down in the third period Canucks' forward Henrik Sedin found brother Daniel in the middle of the Wings' zone, and as he usually does he finished what his brother started beating Howard, who seemed to have a hard time seeing the puck.

The goal evened up the contest at 3 and forced overtime which turned into a shootout that featured two scoreless rounds before Burrows' tally.

Detroit's Jiri Hudler, Henrik Zetterberg and Todd Bertuzzi each had chances in the shootout, but all came up empty.

Howard finished the game with 40 saves, while teammate Justin Abdelkader seventh goal of the season gave Detroit a 3-2 lead with just 4:16 remaining regulation.
