After landing a No. 15 seed in the 2012 NCAA tournament, Detroit is set to face Kansas, the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, in its first game. The Titans and Jayhawks will meet on Friday at CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
Detroit made the Big Dance by virtue of winning the 2012 Horizon League tournament. The Titans had a 22-13 record and clinched an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA tournament with a 70-50 win over Valparaiso in the Horizon League tournament championship game. The victory gave Detroit its first trip to the NCAA tournament since 1999.
Kansas received a No. 2 seed in the tournament after going 27-6. The Jayhawks were hoping for a No. 1 seed, but after losing to Baylor in the Big 12 tournament, that didn't happen.
