It truly did come down to the wire, but the horse from the 19th gate, I'll Have Another, edged No. 6 Bodemeister and No. 5 Dullahan in the final stretch on Saturday to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby in surprising fashion.
I'll Have Another entered the afternoon with a 15-to-1 chance to win according to oddsmakers, and paid off quite handsomely as a somewhat unexpected underdog champion. His ensuing race for the Triple Crown is sure to be a topic of discussion in the near future, but for now, bettors still have plenty of time to cherish their winnings for making such a gusty play.
