The Belmont Stakes 2012 Results, True North Handicap: Caixa Eletronica Comes From Behind In Undercard

While much of the buzz surrounding the 2012 running of the Belmont Stakes has been tempered due to the fact that I'll Have Another has withdrawn due to injury, there's still plenty to be excited about on race day. The Triple Crown is historic, but it isn't everything, and it's been a great day of races thus far.

Among the races today was the 34th running of the True North Handicap, a Grade II race with a handicap for three-year-old horses and upward. It took place at 3:15 p.m. and the race was won by Caixa Eletronica. The horse was lagging behind from the get-to but started to push hard after the first turn.

Justin Phillip was the horse passed near the end - collared in the final 70 yards as Eletronica took the win. Justin Phillip trailed behind with Smiling Tiger bringing up third place. Smiling Tiger stumbled out of the gate which really hurt.
