Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski Says Nick Castellanos' Bat Is Almost Major-League Ready

The Tigers don't have many elite prospects left in their system, but the biggest name yet to see time with the Tigers is third baseman Nick Castellanos.

Castellanos hit better than .400 for Class-A Lakeland before being moved up to Double-A Erie earlier this year. He recently was the MVP of the Futures Game in Kansas City. While the Tigers' recent success has quieted fans clamoring for moves to boost the offense, general manager Dave Dombrowski says Castellanos' bat is ready for the big time, although at a different position. From MLive.com:

"Let's just say his bat plays well enough," Dombrowski added. "Well, he's not going to come up and play at third base for us right now. But he might be able to do it in the outfield. I'm not saying that he is, but he might be able to do it in the outfield."

The Tigers have an All-Star in Miguel Cabrera at third base, so Castellanos recently began playing outfield in Erie in preparation for a potential call-up.
