Both the Wolverines and Spartans added some blue-chip talent to their rosters on National Signing Day.

Michigan and Michigan State wrapped up their 2013 recruiting hauls on Wednesday, and both programs added some strong talent. The Wolverines made headlines throughout the recruiting cycle with a class that Rivals rates at No. 5 in the nation, and for a while it looked as though Brady Hoke and staff might be collecting the best group of talent in the country. Michigan State finished with the fourth-best class in the Big Ten, in Rivals' estimation.

For more football recruiting coverage on these teams, visit The Only Colors and Maize n Brew. And visit SB Nation's recruiting hub for complete National Signing Day coverage.

The Wolverines signed 16 four-star prospects in its deep class, as well as five-star running back Derrick Green, who might be the best running back in the 2013 class. Michigan added a lot of depth to its offensive line with this group, and it also may have found its quarterback of the future in Shane Morris. SB Nation recruiting expert Bud Elliott gave Hoke and staff an A for this class.

Michigan State's class is not quite so accomplished, as it ranks 38th nationally. But the Spartans added some blue-chip prospects, including quarterback Damion Terry. MSU also strengthened its defense with the addition of four-star linebackers Shane Jones and John Reschke. Elliott gave the Spartans a B grade for their efforts this year.

With the NHL labor disagreement settled, the Red Wings could be in camp as early as this weekend, and the start of the regular season may be less than two weeks away.

The NHL and NHLPA came to a tentative agreement to end the lockout on Sunday morning, and the league later informed its clubs that a 48-game regular season will likely begin on Jan. 19. A Jan. 15 start date is a possibility depending on how quickly the new agreement is ratified. The NHL also told teams that they cannot open up camp until this Saturday at the earliest, and perhaps not until next Monday.

The NHL has not yet put together a schedule for its abbreviated regular season, but that could happen within the next few days. So the Detroit Red Wings should have more information soon about the nature of their schedule, and where they begin play.

The lockout lasted more than 100 days and shaved 34 games off of each team's regular season schedule. The NHL's Board of Governors will meet in New York City on Wednesday to vote on the agreement.

The Pistons gave up the game-tying basket will less than 10 seconds left in regulation and they were not able to bounce back in overtime.

The Detroit Pistons fell to the Charlotte Bobcats, 108-101, in overtime on Sunday night. The defeat dropped Detroit's record to 13-23 this season.

Detroit got off to a strong start to the game and led Charlotte 30-21 after the first quarter, but the Bobcats responded with a 38-point second quarter, cutting the Pistons' halftime lead to one. Detroit led by as many as eight points in the third quarter, but the Bobcats managed to cut that deficit to three by the end of the period.

The final 12 minutes were tight throughout, and Bobcats guard Kemba Walker sent the game to overtime by making a game-tying layup with under 10 seconds remaining.

In the overtime period, Charlotte scored the first two baskets to open up a four-point lead, and the Bobcats held on from there as Detroit struggled to generate offense.

Prince led all Detroit scorers with 21 points on 9-15 shooting. Greg Monroe added 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, and Rodney Stuckey scored 18 off the bench.

Walker scored 20 points to lead the Bobcats. Ben Gordon added 18 off the bench, and Ramon Sessions scored 15.

Detroit finished 2012 at 4-12 overall, which earned it a top-five pick in April's NFL Draft.

The Detroit Lions will have the No. 5 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. The NFL's regular season concluded on Sunday, and the first 20 picks of the draft are set. The Kansas City Chiefs will pick first, followed by Jacksonville, Oakland and Philadelphia.

The Lions finished a disappointing 4-12 this year after going 10-6 and making the playoffs a year ago. Barring trades, Detroit will be picking in the top 10 for the seventh time in the last 10 drafts. Some of their most recent top-10 selections include Ndamukong Suh, Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson. Several mock drafts have the franchise going with Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o in 2013 to help strengthen its defense.

Detroit needed some last-minute scoring, but the team managed to fend off a fourth-quarter rally by Milwaukee.

Five Detroit players scored in double figures and the Pistons knocked off the Milwaukee Bucks 96-94 on Sunday night. The win improved Detroit's record to 11-22 overall, and it is now 8-8 at home.

The Pistons got off to a good start to the contest and built a 10-point halftime lead, but they would have to hold off a fourth-quarter rally by the Bucks. Milwaukee managed to come back and take a 94-92 lead with a little over a minute remaining in the game, but Detroit got four straight points from Tayshaun Prince, which ultimately proved decisive. Bucks guard Monta Ellis missed a potential game-tying jump shot in the final seconds.

Prince led Detroit with 20 points on 8-16 shooting. Forward Greg Monroe finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Brandon Knight, Charlie Villanueva and Jason Maxiell also scored in double figures. Detroit shot 47.6 percent as a team and out-rebounded Milwaukee, 47-33.

Ellis led all scorers with 30 points, and Ersan Ilyasova added 24 for the Bucks.

Detroit and Green Bay are even at 17 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers are tied 17-17 as they head into the fourth quarter.

Green Bay claimed a 17-14 lead early in the third quarter on a 27-yard touchdown run by quarterback Aaron Rodgers. That run capped an eight play, 74-yard scoring drive. Detroit answered with a Jason Hanson field goal a few minutes later to knot the score at 17.

Detroit took a 14-10 lead into halftime thanks to a Matthew Stafford touchdown run and touchdown pass to Tony Scheffler. The Lions also played well defensively in the first two quarters, limiting the Packers to fewer than 100 yards of offense. Green Bay's only touchdown of the opening half came on a fumble returned for a score by Mike Daniels.

Stafford has completed 18 of 25 pass attempts for 170 yards. Calvin Johnson is the Lions' leading receiver, while Mikel Leshoure leads the team in rushing yardage. The Lions have 284 yards of total offense.

Detroit is trying to pick up its third road win of the season and end a four-game losing streak.

The Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead on Green Bay thanks to a Matthew Stafford touchdown run and a Stafford touchdown pass to Tony Scheffler. Green Bay answered with a field goal, and the defense provided the Packers' lone touchdown so far on a fumble recovery returned for a score by defensive end Mike Daniels.

Detroit's defense limited Green Bay to fewer than 100 total yards of offense over the first two quarters, and the Packers have just four first downs. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is 5-8 passing for 61 yards.

The Lions piled up more than 200 yards of offense in the half, including 114 passing yards from Stafford, who completed 13 of 16 pass attempts.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 26, with television coverage by ESPN.

Central Michigan finished the regular season 6-6 overall and 4-4 in Mid-American Conference play. The Chippewas finished the season on a three-game winning streak to attain bowl eligibility, and this will be their first appearance in a postseason game since they played in the 2009 GMAC Bowl. CMU is 2-4 all-time in bowl games.

Western Kentucky finished its regular season at 7-5 overall and is making the first bowl trip in school history. The Hilltoppers only recently transitioned to the Football Bowl Subdivision, and they've only been eligible to participate in a bowl game since the 2009 season.

The Giants are the 2012 World Series champions.

An RBI single by Marco Scutaro in the top of the 10th inning propelled the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers in Game 4 of the 2012 World Series on Sunday night. With the win, San Francisco completed a four-game sweep and won the Major League Baseball crown.

The Giants scored the first run of the game, which came on a Brandon Belt triple in the second inning, but the Tigers would not be shut out for the third straight game. Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run home run in the third inning to give his team a 2-1 lead, which the Tigers held until Buster Posey's two-run home run put the Giants back in front in the sixth inning.

That lead didn't last long, as Delmon Young evened things up at three with a solo homer in the bottom half of the sixth. The teams were held scoreless until Scutaro's breakthrough hit in the 10th.

The Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants are tied 3-3 in Game 4 of the 2012 World Series, and they are now going to extra innings.

San Francisco took a 1-0 lead in the second inning thanks to Brandon Belt's triple, which scored Hunter Pence from second base. Miguel Cabrera got the Tigers on the board with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third; those were the first runs scored by Detroit since Game 1.

The Giants came back to take a 3-2 lead on Buster Posey's two-run home run in the sixth inning, but they did not have that lead for long, as Delmon Young tied things up with a solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth.

Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer pitched 6-1/3 innings and struck out eight while walking one. He gave up seven hits and was responsible for all three San Francisco runs. Giants starter Matt Cain went seven innings, striking out five and walking two. He gave up five hits.

Neither team has a hit since the starting pitchers were replaced.
