Ronnie Brown Trade: New Lions Running Back Excited To Play In Detroit

Stay connected for news and updates

Ronnie Brown is excited to be a Detroit Lion. And why not?

The trade sent Brown from last place in the NFC East with the floundering 2-4 Philadelphia Eagles to the feel-good Lions, whose 5-1 record is tied for the second-best in the NFL, behind only the undefeated, defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.

"I’m excited about it," Brown told the Free Press. "Obviously, I think I have an opportunity to play, which is always good, and that’s my goal, to be able to be a part of something and feel like you’re a part of it and actually go in and contribute a little bit."

First-string running back Jahvid Best suffered a concussion in Week 6 in a 25-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and Brown provides depth at running back for the Lions, who are primed to make a run at the playoffs after having not reached the postseason since 1999. Best’s status for Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons is currently unknown, but Brown, who played for Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan for one season with the Miami Dolphins, offers a familiar and sturdy option in the backfield regardless.
