Eldra Buckley, Anthony Madison Released By Detroit Lions To Make Room On Roster

The Detroit Lions made a couple of roster moves on Monday morning when they decided to bring back running back Kevin Smith and sign offensive lineman Leonard Davis. To make room for those two players, however, the team announced that they have released Eldra Buckley and Anthony Madison.

Buckley, a journeyman running back the Lions signed once Jerome Harrison's health problems were discovered, appeared in two games without recording any statistics for Detroit. Prior to joining the Lions, Buckley spent a couple of seasons on the San Diego Chargers practice squad and then played two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before finding his way to the Lions for about a month this season.

Madison, a cornerback, was primarily on the Lions active roster for his work on special teams. Needing a lineman more than a special teamer, however, the team apparently decided that he was expendable. In four games this season, Madison recorded a single assisted tackle.
