Week 10 NFL Power Rankings: FOX Sports Drops Lions One Spot

The Detroit Lions still find themselves doing odd things in the weekly power rankings. Despite the fact that they snapped a two-game losing skid with a dominating win over the Broncos a week ago and despite the fact that they're coming off a bye week, they have moved down in a couple of the bigger power rankings.

FOX Sports drops them a spot, for some reason:

11. QB Matt Stafford is coming off an impressive game against the Broncos, and will be well-rested after the bye week. If they can get RB Jahvid Best back into the lineup, they can easily get back into the rhythm of their 5-0 start. They will most likely be chasing a wild-card spot since catching the Packers may be impossible.

Now, it's likely that Brian Billick simply felt that other teams needed to rise, but 11 is lower on the power rankings than most have them at to begin with, so it's really odd to see them sitting there and dropping down one point following a bye week. Especially when it comes with complimenting Matt Stafford.

Week 10 NFL Power Rankings: CBS Sports Moves Lions Up Two Spots

The Detroit Lions are coming off a bye week following a big win, and are looking ahead to a divisional matchup against the Chicago Bears. They're sitting at 6-2 and within striking distance of the division-leading Packers and, of course, a wildcard playoff berth. For the Lions, they've mostly held or moved up slightly in the power rankings since breaking their two-game skid with the win over the Broncos.

CBS Sports does them one better, bumping them up two spots:

6. Their bye should have helped them work on two things: Running it better and stopping the run. They face a big division game this week with the Bears.

Last week, the Lions were held at the No. 8 spot, and now following the bye week, they find themselves going up two spots. Other teams fell out of those spots, so that's probably why, but it's clear the Lions are highly thought-of and most folks feel like they can beat the Bears on Sunday.

Week 10 NFL Power Rankings: ESPN Moves Lions Up

The Detroit Lions are coming off of a bye week which itself came after a beatdown of the Denver Broncos. Following that win over Denver, the Lions really didn't move up power rankings all that much, but the bye week has them trending upward as they are evaluated further and other teams play poorly and fall.

ESPN moves them up one point in their Week 10 rankings:

7. Signing Leonard Davis as a backup guard was a good move, but too bad he isn't a big running back. (Clayton)

It's good that they were moved up - the Lions belong somewhere around the top six or seven teams. But the explanation from Clayton, as usual, is an odd one. One has to wonder if he realizes that the team also signed Kevin Smith, a running back who came only a little short of rushing for 2000 yards of his first two years in the league for the very same Lions before being phased out by Jahvid Best.

Not to mention the fact that the explanation has really nothing to do with their spots on the rankings, but hey ... a rise up the charts is a rise up the charts.
