Jahvid Best Injury: Running Back Expects To Be Back In 2012, GM Not As Committal

It's been over a month since the last update regarding Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best, but now there's something worth noting. While Best said recently that there's no doubt he'll be playing football in 2012, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said he expects Best back, but that it's not going to be his decision, according to the Detroit Free Press.

"I think, at some point, Jahvid and a doctor or a group of doctors will say he can come back," Mayhew said. "And at that point, we'll be glad to have him."

Best is still ongoing regular evaluation after suffering two concussions last season. He also suffered a very serious concussion in college, making it (at least) his third serious head injury. He was placed on injured reserve to end the season and missed 11 games for the Lions, counting the Wild Card loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Some would consider it too early to speculate, but Best has been cleared for physical activity, at the very least. It's actually likely that he'll get the clearance to play regardless, but that doesn't necessarily mean he will be back for sure. Players have elected to retire after multiple serious concussions even after being cleared to suit up and play again.
