A year ago, when the NFL schedule was announced, the big story for the Detroit Lions was the fact that they finally had a game on a Monday night. After going a decade without playing on ESPN's Monday Night Football, the Lions got the chance to take on the Chicago Bears on a Monday night. They won the game, thanks in part to the amazing atmosphere at Ford Field.
This year, the 2012 Monday Night Football schedule includes two Lions games -- one on the road and one at home. Interestingly, the home game in Week 16 will actually be played on a Saturday night since Christmas Eve is on a Monday that week.
Here's the full schedule:
Week 1: Bengals vs. Ravens
Week 1: Chargers vs. Raiders
Week 2: Broncos vs. Falcons
Week 3: Packers vs. Seahawks
Week 4: Bears vs. Cowboys
Week 5: Texans vs. Jets
Week 6: Broncos vs. Chargers
Week 7: Lions vs. Bears
Week 8: 49ers vs. Cardinals
Week 9: Eagles vs. Saints
Week 10: Chiefs vs. Steelers
Week 11: Bears vs. 49ers
Week 12: Panthers vs. Eagles
Week 13: Giants vs. Redskins
Week 14: Texans vs. Patriots
Week 15: Jets vs. Titans
Week 16: Falcons vs. Lions (Saturday)

The most notable games on the Lions' schedule for 2012 are the five nationally televised matchups. After last year's successful season, the Lions were expecting to be involved in a few primetime games in 2012, and that is indeed the case. They will take on the Texans in their usual Thanksgiving game, and they also are set to meet the 49ers and Packers on NBC and the Bears and Falcons on ESPN.

Early indications are that the Detroit Lions will be opening their season hosting the Green Bay Packers on Monday night, according Fox 2 sports reporter Jennifer Hammond.

The Lions hosted one Monday night game last season when they defeated the Bears 24-13 on Oct. 10.
On Tuesday, Lions president Tom Lewand seemed to indicate that Detroit will have several primetime games, so Hammond's tweet falls in line with that report.
The Lions lost to the Packers twice last season, including a 45-41 defeat in the final game of the season.
The schedule will be released on the NFL Network tonight at 7:00 ET.

The Lions haven't found themselves on at primetime too often over the last decade, but that appears set to chance, according to team president Tom Lewand.
Feels like a lot of prime time games for us when schedule comes out today. The most any team can have is 5. Any guesses?
— Tom Lewand (@tomlewand) April 17, 2012
Due to last year's success, the Lions have suddenly become one of the must-see teams in the NFL. The combination of Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson gives Detroit one of the more exciting offenses to watch in the league.
Their playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints was on a Saturday night.
The schedule will be released on the NFL Network tonight at 7:00 ET.

The Detroit Lions, along with the rest of the NFL, will get their official 2012 schedules Tuesday night at 7 ET.
While the NFL's Tuesday announcement will set in stone the times and dates of the schedule, we do already know who the Lions' 2012 opponents will be:
Home: Rams, Seahawks, Texans, Colts, Falcons
Away: Cardinals, 49ers, Jaguars, Titans, Eagles
As always, the Lions will play their divisional rivals -- the Packers, Vikings and Bears -- once at home and once on the road.
SB Nation's Sean Yuille broke down the Lions' pending schedule in this post back in December.
SB Nation and SB Nation Detroit will have extensive coverage of the official schedules when they are announced at 7 ET.
