Lions WR Titus Young Speaks To Detroit Media For The First Time Since Returning

The Detroit Lions have had wide receiver Titus Young back in practice for about a week now following an altercation with safety Louis Delmas. Young was sent home from practice following the incident and missed the first week of OTAs. When he returned, he released an official statement apologizing for his actions and expressing his desire to just get back to work.

Now, Young has spoken to the Detroit media for the first time since the incident, and he says there's no hard feelings between him and Delmas or anybody else on the team, for that matter, according to the Detroit Free Press:

"I'm fine with everybody, man," Young said. "We were just joking in the training room (today), man. He just kicked my foot up in the training room, I laughed at him, and we were just joking around, just brotherly love. Just like I joke with you guys. Sometimes you guys might get on my nerves, sometimes I might get on your nerves, but it's all love."

He didn't give any details about the event but it is good to see that he's moved on. He also went on to talk about how he just wanted to get things off his chest, and then spoke to the fact that the team is bigger than any one player on it. It stands to reason that, if another player on the team did the same thing that Young did, that player would have been sent home.

The coaching staff has already moved on from the incident as well, with head coach Jim Schwartz and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan both attributing the incident to Young's youth.

Jim Schwartz Responds To Lions' Off-Field Problems

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is not happy with the off-field issues some players on his team are having; specifically, problems that members of the team's 2011 draft class are having, which include five different arrests from the five-member class. Nick Fairley is the most recent offender, being arrested and charged with driving under the influence, attempting to elude police and refusing a breathalyzer.

Schwartz addressed the issues when he met with the media following organized team activities on Tuesday. His comments courtesy of Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press:

"I think what we have here is a case of a few guys tainting the reputations of a lot of others. What we have here is a situation that it appears that a couple guys haven't learned and that is a concern but they are still young and there's still a lot in front of them and we are hopeful that they can ... put this behind them."

In addition to Fairley, the team has also had to deal with wide receiver Titus Young, who got into a fight with teammate Louis Delmas. Young was forced to sit out practice prior to returning on Tuesday. Here's what Schwartz had to say:

"There's certain criteria for him to be able to come out and practice & play the way that we know he can. He had an outstanding day of practice today. That doesn't erase the incidents that have occurred and it doesn't change the process that we're going to have for him to stay in good standing, not just with the team but with his teammates."

Titus Young Releases Statement Addressing Recent Absence From Team

Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young, who reportedly got into a fight with teammate Louis Delmas and was later absent from team workouts, issued a brief statement Tuesday morning.

From the Detroit Lions official website:

"My recent actions have not always been up to the standards the Lions expect or the standards that I expect from myself. I am truly sorry for those times when I didn't meet those standards.

"My absence from the practice facility and the OTAs last week was necessary for both myself and the team.

"The time away from the team afforded me the opportunity to reflect and come to the realization that by putting those incidents behind me I will be able to focus on becoming the best teammate and player that I can be."

Tim Twentyman, a Lions reporter, tweeted Tuesday that Young was now back and working out with the team:

Young, a 2011 second-round draft pick out of Boise State, caught 48 passes last season for 607 yards and six touchdowns.

Titus Young's Apathetic Attitude Might Be Reason Lions Told WR To Stay Away

It's not entirely clear why Titus Young sucker punched his teammate at some point during OTAs this month, resulting in an (alleged) indefinite banishment from the team's facilities.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press recently helped shed some light on the situation, as explained by NFL.com:

"By all accounts, he was apathetic when coaches weren’t involved in workouts early this offseason, something that didn't sit well with Lions veterans," Birkett writes. "It's unclear if he'll be back this spring and how his petulance will be received once he returns, but he has the potential to be a dangerous No. 2 receiver." [...]

It sounds like the Lions veterans are a big reason why Young is not back with the team yet. His time away from the Lions may be coach Jim Schwartz's way of adjusting Young's "apathetic" attitude before he upsets any more teammates.

In his rookie season, Young caught 48 balls for 607 yards and six touchdowns.

Titus Young Not Suspended After All, According To Report

Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young, who last week got into a fight with Lions safety Louis Delmas, is not serving a suspension from the team, according to Lions writer Tim Twentyman:

MLive.com reported Monday that Young was not allowed to participate in the team's organized team activities, or OTAs. Delmas, meanwhile, was in attendance and participating.

Young reportedly instigated the fight, which occurred last week.

According to that Monday article from MLive.com, Lions coach Jim Schwartz declined to speak specifically about the incident or the team's disciplinary measures.

Young, a 2011 second-round pick out of Boise State, was fourth on the team in catches (48) and yards (607) in 2011.

Titus Young Allegedly Sucker Punched Louis Delmas, According To Report

There's now a little bit more information about the fight that occurred between Detroit Lions second-year wide receiver Titus Young and fourth-year safety Louis Delmas. Young is being held out of further OTAs following an incident which was speculated to be instigated by him, and now we've got something of a confirmation.

Anwar Richardson of MLive.com reports, citing a source, that Young allegedly punched Delmas when he was not looking following a confrontation in voluntary workouts last week. In other words, Young reportedly sucker-punched Delmas when things got heated.

It makes sense then, that Delmas is at OTAs on Monday while Young is being disciplined and being held out. It's unclear if he'll be back sooner rather than later, or if he'll be back at all for further voluntary workouts. Schwartz declined to speak about the incident:

"This is the voluntary part of our offseason program," Schwartz said. "There is no need to comment. It sort of entails that it is not voluntary."

It's likely we're not going to hear much more from the Lions in regards to this incident, so we'll know what happens when and if Young returns for further voluntary workouts. Young was very productive in 2011 with over 600 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie, and by all accounts has a promising future in the NFL. Providing he stops punching teammates.
