Jeff Backus Injury: Lions OT On Schedule With Recovery From Bicep Surgery

Detroit Lions left tackle Jeff Backus injured his bicep during the Lions playoff game against the Saints and had to have surgery on it in January, but looks to be completely on track with his recovery according to DetroitLions.com. Backus is not yet ready to play, but he's still got some time before the organized team activities start later this month and training camp is still ages away.

“The goal is to just get stronger, get my peck stronger and my bicep stronger and once I get into OTAs be smart about things and see how it goes,” he said.

“Coming off surgery, it’s about working myself in. I feel great right now. There hasn’t been any setbacks or limitations, it’s just about getting stronger.”

Backus has started 177 consecutive games for the Lions at the left tackle position since being drafted in 2001 and signed a two year deal to keep him on the team this offseason.

And if Backus isn't 100% by the time the season has started for whatever reason, the Lions did draft a replacement for him in Riley Reiff so Backus can take his time to get better if the 32 year old really needs to.
