Aaron Berry Released By Lions Following Latest Arrest

Stay connected for news and updates

It's been a long offseason for the Detroit Lions, with players getting in trouble with the law far too much for the team's comfort. Cornerback Aaron Berry was arrested for the second time in only a month on Saturday, this time for an assault charge with a firearm involved.

Apparently, that was more than enough for the Lions, as it was announced by the team on Monday that Berry would no longer be with them.

The 24-year-old corner was projected to start in Detroit's secondary in 2012 after emerging into a decent physical player in 2011, when he played 11 games with the squad. He collected 31 tackles and 11 pass deflections during his 2011 season.

It's a tough break for the Lions to lose a projected starter in such a fashion right before training camp, but the team is clearly sick of seeing their name in the headlines in all the wrong ways.
