Detroit Lions' Mikel Leshoure Not Going On PUP List, According To Report

The Detroit Lions had a couple problems last season: a relatively weak secondary and injuries at the running back position. Jahvid Best found himself on injured reserve after a severe concussion (not his first one), while then-rookie Mikel Leshoure found himself on injured reserve before the season even started.

Leshoure was the Lions' pick in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft (pick No. 57) and was injured in practice during training camp last year after tearing his Achilles tendon following a collision with Cliff Avril. He recently tweeted that his tendon is 100 percent, and now we've got something of confirmation of that.

Dave Birkett took to Twitter to say that Leshoure won't find himself on the physically unable to perform list:

Had Leshoure been placed on the PUP list, he'd have been able to come off of it at any point in the preseason, as it's only binding when you begin the regular season on it (players who begin the regular season on the PUP list have to remain on it through Week 6 of said regular season).

Still, it's good to see now that Leshoure is healthy and likely ready to go. With Best suggesting that he'll be cleared for full contact in practice, it will be interesting to see how the Lions originally intended to use these two together, and we should see a glimpse of that in training camp.
