The Detroit Lions have acquired three-year veteran cornerback Kevin Barnes in a trade with the Washington Redskins.

The Detroit Lions have acquired cornerback Kevin Barnes in a trade with the Washington Redskins, multiple media outlets are reporting Monday. The terms of the deal aren't known, but it adds depth to the Lions secondary, which is dealing with a handful of injuries.

Barnes, 25, is a three-year veteran from the University of Maryland who last season was the Redskins nickel cornerback. in that role, Barnes (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) played in 15 games, made 26 tackles, two interceptions and four pass defenses.

This season, Barnes was hoping to build on his successful season and earn an outside cornerback spot, but newly signed seven-year veteran Cedric Griffin won the position battle.

During his three years with the Redskins, Barnes compiled 45 tackles and three interceptions.
