Lions Vs. 49ers Score Update: Detroit Trails 7-6 After One Quarter

The long-awaited rematch is underway from Candlestick Park, and Jim Schwartz's Detroit Lions currently trail the San Francisco 49ers in a tight game after one quarter of play, 7-6.

The 49ers wasted little time marching down the field on their first possession of the game, and broke the scoring with a beautiful over-the-shoulder touchdown pass from Alex Smith to tight end Vernon Davis. Davis slid through Detroit's zone defense and ran past safety John Wendling to record the score, which marked his second touchdown grab of the season.

The Lions answered with a Jason Hanson field goal on the ensuing possession to cut the lead to 7-3, and then quickly recovered a fumble on the following kickoff to set up another three-point kick from Hanson.

With around two minutes remaining in the quarter, Matthew Stafford threw a wobbly pass with to no one in particular and was picked off by 49ers safety Dashon Goldson. San Francisco took over in Lion's territory, but was unable to move the ball forward, eventually settling for a field goal. However, a penalty on Detroit -- Running Into The Kicker -- took the 49ers' points off the board and continued their drive. When the quarter ended, San Francisco had a first-and-goal on the Detroit one-yard line, leading 7-6.
