Ryan Grant signs with the Washington Redskins after workouts with the Lions and Bears

After reportedly working out with the Detroit Lions earlier this month, free agent running back Ryan Grant has signed a one-year contract worth about $1.2 million with the Washington Redskins, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.

Despite juggling multiple running backs, it is not believed that the Lions offered Grant a contract after his workout with the team. Grant also worked out for the Chicago Bears on Tuesday.

Grant rushed 134 times for 559 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games for the Green Bay Packers in 2011-12. The Packers released him prior to the start of the season.

Kevin Smith leads the Lions in rushing with 29 carries for 115 yards through three weeks of the season. Mikel LeShoure, the Lions' second-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Illinois, is second on the team with 26 carries for 100 yards. The Lions are averaging 102.0 yards per game on the ground ,which ranks 14th in the league this season.

Detroit Lions To Work Out Ryan Grant, Steve Slaton

Along with Steve Slaton, free agent running back Ryan Grant will be visiting the Detroit Lions for a workout, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Grant has spent 2012 as a free agent, but was a member of the Green Bay Packers from 2007 to 2011. Last season. he played in 15 games for Green Bay, but managed to rush for only 559 yards and two touchdowns. Before suffering a season ending ankle injury in Week 1 of 2010, Grant had rushed for over 1,200 yards in both 2008 and 2009.

This is not the first time Ryan Grant has been reported to visit the Lions. Grant, reportedly, had a contract offer on the table from Detroit, but conflicting reports said that a visit to Detroit was never even scheduled.

The Lions have been thin at the running back position in 2012 with Mikel Leshoure and Jahvid Best yet to play this season.
