Chapas, who was a seventh-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, played with Matthew Stafford at the University of Georgia. He appeared in three games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2011. Washington was an undrafted prospect who began his career with the Cowboys before moving on to stops with the New England Patriots and New York Jets.

The Lions open up their regular season schedule against St. Louis on Sept. 9.
