The Detroit Lions were reportedly $700,000 over the NFL's salary cap heading into the 2012 season, but they have remedied that issue by restructuring the contract of defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch. The routine maneuver will save the Lions $3 million against this year's cap.

Vanden Bosch's base salary is $5 million for each of the next two seasons, with a $2 million-plus bonus that brings the cap hit to over $7 million for both this year and next year. It has not yet been revealed what exactly the Lions did to reduce that cap hit, but it likely involves some sort of deferment.
In 2010, Vanden Bosch signed a four-year contract with the Lions, worth up to $26 million. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 season.
