Red Wings Sign Fabian Brunnstrom To 1-Year, 2-Way Deal

The Detroit Red Wings decided on Monday to sign forward Fabian Brunnstrom to a one-year, two-way contract. Brunnstrom was originally brought in on a tryout contract, and he performed well enough during training camp and the preseason to earn a deal for the upcoming season.

There's no telling how long Brunnstrom will be in Detroit, but he will at the very least start the season with the Red Wings. Once Jan Mursak returns in a few months from his broken ankle, it's possible Brunnstrom will be sent down to Grand Rapids since he is on a two-way deal.

In other roster news, the Red wings released forward Ryan Johnson, who was also on a tryout contract. The reason he was let go was to make room on the roster for Cory Emmerton.

In addition to signing Brunnstrom and releasing Johnson, the Red Wings assigned eight players to Grand Rapids and placed five players on waivers. The eight players headed to the AHL's Griffins are as follows (via the Red Wings' official site): forwards Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Landon Ferraro, Joakim Andersson and Brent Raedeke, defensemen Travis Ehrhardt and Brian Lashoff and goalie Jordan Pearce. The five players headed to Grand Rapids if they clear waivers are forward Chris Conner, defensemen Doug Janik, Garnet Exelby and Logan Pyett and goalie Joey MacDonald.
