Patrick Eaves Injury Update: Red Wings Forward Out 6-8 Weeks

Stay connected for news and updates

Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves was involved in a scary incident at the tail end of yesterday's 4-1 Wings win over the Nashville Predators when he took a slap shot from Roman Josi to the head. Eaves was taken off the ice on a stretcher and spent the night at Detroit Medical Center. As bad as it looked initially, a diagnosis of a broken jaw almost seemed like good news.

Of course, it's still very bad news, as a broken jaw will likely sideline Eaves through at least mid-January:

General manager Ken Holland said this afternoon he expects Eaves to miss 6-to-8 weeks, though "we'll know more after he's had the surgery. But Danny Cleary had a broken jaw, Brad Stuart, and that's about the time they missed."

Eaves was not a regular in the Red Wings lineup, making just his 10th appearance of the season, so Holland would not comment on whether or not the team will make any personnel moves in response to Eaves' injury.
