2011 NHL Draft Results: A Look At The Red Wings' Picks

The Detroit Red Wings selected nine players on day two of the 2011 NHL Draft. Originally they were set to make a pick on Friday night, but a trade gave that pick to the Ottawa Senators. Detroit got two additional second-round selections for a total of nine picks on day two.

Below is a look at the nine players the Red Wings selected (team is the first thing in parentheses; hometown is on the second thing).

Round 2, pick No. 5, overall No. 35 - RW Tomas Jurco (Saint John, QMJHL | Kosice, Slovakia)

Round 2, pick No. 18, overall No. 48 - D Xavier Ouellet (Montreal, QMJHL | Bayonne, France)

Round 2, pick No. 25, overall No. 55 - D Ryan Sproul (Sault Ste. Marie, OHL | Mississauga, Ontario, Canada)

Round 3, pick No. 24, overall No. 85 - C Alan Quine (Peterborough, OHL | Belleville, Ontario, Canada)

Round 4, pick No. 24, overall No. 115 - RW Marek Tvrdon (Vancouver, WHL | Nitra, Slovakia)

Round 5, pick No. 24, overall No. 145 - C/RW Philippe Hudon (Cornell University starting in fall 2011 | Montreal, Quebec, Canada)

Round 5, pick No. 25, overall No. 146 - D Mattias Backman (Linkoping Jr., Swedish Jr. | Linkoping, Sweden)

Round 6, pick No. 24, overall No. 175 - D Richard Nedomlel (Swift Current, WHL | Prague, Czech Republic)

Round 7, pick No. 24, overall No. 205 - D Alexei Marchenko (CSKA 2, Russia-3 | Moscow, Russia)

Other local news from the NHL Draft worth mentioning is that future University of Michigan hockey players John Gibson and Brennan Serville were both drafted.
