Red Wings look to halt losing streak.
The Detroit Red Wings host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena as they look to begin a new home winning streak.
The Red Wings will try to bounce back from two consecutive losses which included a home loss to Vancouver on Thursday that ended the team's NHL-record 23-game home winning streak. Left winger Pavel Datsyuk missed both losses and will be out against Colorado as he recovers from arthroscopic knee surgery.
Datsyuk should be back for Detroit's playoff run but as the team's leading scorer his presence is always missed. Darren Helm stepped up with a goal and two assists in Detroit's shootout loss on Thursday while goaltender Jimmy Howard denied 40 shots in the loss.
Colorado arrives in Detroit battling for a spot on the Western Conference playoffs after a 5-0 win in Columbus on Friday night. Right winger David Jones score two goals and assisted on another to lead the way for the Avs, while goaltender Semyon Varlamov turned away all 28 shots by the Blue Jackets.
