Red Wings Vs. Capitals: Detroit Tries To Stop Recent Slide Against Washington

Stay connected for news and updates

The heavily injured Detroit Red Wings will welcome the Washington Capitals to Joe Louis Arena on Monday, hoping to stop a recent slide of games that has sunk their March.

March hasn't been a pretty month so far for the Detroit Red Wings. They've only picked up two wins in their eight games this month, which has pushed them down to third in their division with the St. Louis Blues surging out of nowhere into first place.

The Wings continue to be one of the more injured teams in the league right now with plenty of injuries. Coach Mike Babcock announced earlier that both Johan Franzen and Darren Helm will miss the game on Monday, and there's still a lingering injury to Nicklas Lidstrom. Backup goalkeeper Joey MacDonald is out as well, which means that Jimmy Howard will start between the pipes for the Wings.

The Capitals are desperate for wins with the Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets right on their tail for the last playoff spot in the East.

The game will be at Joe Louis Arena at 7:30 p.m. ET.
