Red Wings Vs. Hurricanes Final: Detroit Comes Alive Late To Win 5-4

Things appeared bleak early on, but the Detroit Red Wings pulled out a clutch 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday evening at Joe Louis Arena. The win snapped Detroit's six-game losing streak, and properly righted the ship for one of the league's best pound-for-pound teams on a night when defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom returned from an 11-game absence.

With roughly four minutes remaining until the end of the second period, the Wings trailed by a rather significant three-goal deficit on the scoreboard. But as we've seen this organization do so many times before, the Wings simply found a way to rally back and make a game of it.

Henrik Zetterberg chipped in his 20th and 21st goals of the year, while Valtteri Filppula recorded three assists to surpass the 60-point barrier for the season (he now has 62). The key for the Wings, despite not scoring a power play goal all night, was pressure in the attacking zone. Detroit peppered goalie Cam Ward with 50 shots during the game, and simply wore him down as the night pressed on.

Next up for the Wings is a home and home series with Columbus that starts up Monday at the Joe.
