Darren Helm Injury: Red Wings Forward Has Surgery On Sliced Wrist

Stay connected for news and updates

The sight of Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm immediately holding his hand in pain and quickly skating off the ice in the first period of Wednesday's loss to Nashville was enough to make Wings fans fear for the worst. And, from the looks of it, those immediate fears appear to have been confirmed, as Helm's injury is quite serious.

MLive's Ansar Khan tweeted that Helm not only needed surgery for the laceration, but that it was believed to be severe enough that a tendon could have been severed in the process. Not good.

It's clear that Helm's injury will keep him out for the foreseeable future, but clearly the concern right now is his health, and not how quickly he'll be able to get back on the ice. Stay with SB Nation Detroit's StoryStream for more updates on Helm's injury as more information is released.
