2012 NHL Playoffs, Predators Vs. Red Wings Final Score: Detroit Downed By Nashville In Game 3, 3-2

The Detroit Red Wings couldn't overcome a poor start on Sunday and fell 3-2 to the Nashville Predators in Game 3 of the first round. A Henrik Zetterberg goal with just 53.1 seconds remaining offered hope for a late Red Wings comeback, but it was not to be.

Detroit, trailing 2-1 after two periods, actually outshot the Predators 12-0 during a 12-minute stretch to open the final period, but they could not beat goaltender Pekka Rinne during that stretch. Rinne finished the day with 41 saves on 43 shots and continued his rock-solid series between the pipes.

The game-winner was sent in by Sergei Kostitsyn, who scored his fourth career playoff goal, and his first of 2012, on a wrist shot that beat goalie Jimmy Howard high (video below) on a broken defensive play by the Wings.

Despite the home loss and unfortunate sting of going down 2-1 in the series, the Red Wings played a strong game down the stretch and controlled the puck arguably as well as they have all season. Detroit nearly doubled Nashville's shot attempts, 43-22, and will need to keep peppering shots at the net in order to get the best of Rinne in the next couple games.

The two teams will suit up for Game 4 of the series on Tuesday at Joe Louis Arena.

2012 NHL Playoffs, Predators Vs. Red Wings Score Update: Nashville Leads 2-1 In Tight Game

Things are heating up heading into the deciding period, and the Detroit Red Wings trail 2-1 after 40 minutes in Sunday's playoff game with the Nashville Predators.

The Wings nearly tied the score 2-2 in the final seconds of the period, but a replay review (photographic evidence here) showed that time had expired before a Detroit shot crossed the goal line. Pavel Datsyuk scored on a quick reaction goal earlier to cut Detroit's deficit in half (video below), as the Wings played strong down the stretch to take a good deal of momentum into the locker room.

Kevin Klein beat goalie Jimmy Howard early in the second period to expand Nashville's lead to 2-0 before Detroit eventually roared back with a 2-1 series deficit staring them in the face. The Wings still lead overall in shot attempts 24-18, but they have committed six penalties and continue to be limited by chronic whistles.

2012 NHL Playoffs, Predators Vs. Red Wings Score Update: Detroit Trails 1-0 After 1st Period

In the pivotal third game of the series, the Detroit Red Wings trail the Nashville Predators 1-0 after one period in Sunday's matinee.

Series villain Shea Weber opened the scoring with a power-play goal just 2:48 into the game on assists by Andrei Kostitsyn and Alexander Radulov. The goal (video below) represented Weber's second of the playoffs and the 21st of his campaign after he netted 19 in the regular season.

A nagging problem throughout the first two games, penalties continue to plague the Red Wings in Game 3, as Niklas Kronwall and Drew Miller each were sent to the box in the opening 20 minutes. Despite a narrow 11-9 lead in shot attempts, the momentum has shifted quite often between the two teams, with the difference ultimately coming on the power play. The Wings were unable to get the puck past Pekka Rinne on their only man advantage in the first and will look to beat the red-hot goaltender to tie the score in the second period.
