Grand Rapids Griffins Head Coach Curt Fraser Leaves For Dallas Stars

The Detroit Red Wings are making moves to try and keep that strong team they've had so long intact heading into the 2012-13 season, but their affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, has something of a big need now: a head coach. Joe Nieuwendyk, general manager of the Dallas Stars, announced on Monday that the team has named Curt Fraser its assistant coach.

Fraser had been the head coach of the Griffins for the past four seasons and compiled a 146-130-40 record. He has the most wins in Grand Rapids history. He's got over 1,000 games coaching experience at various levels and has coached at the head coach level in the NHL as well, as the first head coach in franchise history for the Atlanta Thrashers. Fraser has also worked with the St. Louis Blues and New York Islanders.

Given how the Red Wings generally handle this kind of thing, it's likely that they'll promote somebody from within, but as it stands now, the Griffins are without a head coach.
