NHL Draft Results: Red Wings Select Michael McKee With 140th Pick

The Detroit Red Wings have selected their first defenseman of the 2012 NHL Draft. After going with forwards Martin Frk and Andreas Athanasiou and goalie Jake Paterson earlier in the draft, the Red Wings selected defenseman Michael McKee in the fifth round with the 140th overall pick.

McKee, who is listed at 6-foot-4, is committed to play hockey at Western Michigan. He is from Ontario and played for the Lincoln Stars of the USHL in 2011-12. In 59 games for the Stars, he had two goals and 17 assists for 19 points. A season earlier, he played for Kent School in Connecticut and recorded eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 27 games.

With the McKee pick now made, the Red Wings have only two picks remaining: the 170th and 200th overall selections.
