In news you can almost assuredly file under "unexpected," the Tigers have made a trade with their Monday night opponent and Central Division rival Minnesota Twins. The breaking news comes via the Tigers official Twitter feed:
Tigers acquire Delmon Young from Twins for Cole Nelson and a player to be named later. #tigers
Delmon Young, as you probably know, is the brother of former Tiger Dmitri Young.
Young, 25-years-old, hit 21 homers and knocked in 112 runs last year while hitting .298/.333/.826, but has not been the same this season, mostly due to some injuries (four home runs and a career worst .266/.305/.662 hitting line in just 84 games). However, as Jon Morosi pointed out on Twitter, Young is starting to really come around this month, sporting an .865 OPS in August. Since June 9, actually, Young has hit .313/.360/.807.
The Tigers will announce a coinciding roster move later today, but it is being said that Young will hit third for the Tigers tonight. Speculate as you will.
