The Detroit Tigers' 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night kept hope alive that they could secure homefield advantage in the 2011 MLB playoffs, but not for long. The Texas Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim shortly after the Tigers' game ended. The Rangers clinched the second seed in the American League with the win, meaning the Tigers are headed to New York to face the Yankees.
The Tigers-Yankees series will begin on Friday night and continue on Saturday. The series will shift to Detroit on Monday and Tuesday (Game 4 is if necessary), and if a fifth game is necessary, it will be played in New York next Thursday.
