The progression to the big leagues for Detroit Tigers top prospect Jacob Turner took another step forward Saturday, as the righty was promoted from the Class A-Advance Lakeland Flying Tigers to the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens. Turner will make his first Triple-A start of the season for the Mud Hens Sunday, when Toledo faces the Gwinnett Braves at 2:05 p.m. ET.
For the past month, Turner has been rehabbing his shoulder with the Flying Tigers. He struck out a season-high eight batters in seven scoreless innings on Tuesday.
Toledo was where Turner was supposed to be coming out of after spring training. However, he suffered a bit of a setback when shoulder tendinitis forced him to stay in Florida. The 20-year-old was hoping to make the team full-time in 2012 after appearing in three games last season, going 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA.
