Detroit Tigers Designate Matt Young For Assignment

Stay connected for news and updates

On Tuesday afternoon, the Detroit Tigers announced via the Twitter account of Media Relations Director Brian Britten that the club has designated outfielder Matt Young for assignment in order to make room for relief pitcher Darin Downs on the 40-man roster.

Young had appeared in five games with the Tigers during the 2012 season and recorded only one hit (a double), which earned him an RBI. Over the course of his 11 plate appearances this season, Young struck out nine times and was hit by a pitch.

Prior to joining the Tigers, Young was a member of the Atlanta Braves organization and appeared in 20 games with the club during the 2011 season.
