Following their loss to the Minnesota Twins Monday, the Detroit Tigers announced two roster moves. Detroit purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Luke Putkonen from Triple-A Toledo and, to make room on the Major League roster, optioned Duane Below to Triple-A.

Putkonen has made six appearances with the Tigers this season, allowing seven earned runs over 7-1/3 innings pitched. He appeared in 22 games for Toledo, posting a 2-2 record with a 4.68 ERA. His last outing for Detroit came on May 22, when he pitched 1-1/3 scoreless innings against the Indians.

Below has pitched in 27 games in relief for Detroit this season. He's posted a 3.38 ERA in 45-1/3 innings although he hasn't been used much lately. He's made just two appearances in August, including his appearance Monday night. In one inning of work, Below allowed three earned runs and three hits.
