Tigers Option Infielder Danny Worth To Triple-A Toledo

After making a trade with the Chicago Cubs to acquire utilityman Jeff Baker earlier in the day, the Detroit Tigers optioned infielder Danny Worth to Toledo following Sunday's thrilling victory over Cleveland:

The 26-year-old Worth has bounced around between the big leagues and minors for the last three seasons, but does not appear to factor into the team's plans for the remainder of the year. He was hitting just .206 this season with 21 strikeouts in just 67 at-bats, and aside from flashing what appeared to be an improved eye at the plate with 12 walks, just doesn't appear to be the consistent offensive threat the Tigers need him to be right now.

Baker, a guy who already has a 10+ home run season on his resume despite seeing time largely as a replacement player, should step right into an as-needed role for manager Jim Leyland, one that Worth could never quite fill. After being selected 91st overall in 2007 by Detroit as a future stud defender with an improving bat, Worth has not once posted a season in Triple-A with an average over .290, and may just be running out of chances for serious playing time in Motown.

Tigers Vs. Indians Final Score: Miguel Cabrera's Walk-Off HR Leads Detroit To Thrilling 10-Inning Victory

In what may have been one of the single most exciting baseball games of the 2012 MLB season, the Detroit Tigers literally stunned the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon with an improbable 10-8 comeback win in 10 innings.

Things looked especially bleak for the Tigers' chances at a three-game sweep right away in extra innings, as reliever Joaquin Benoit promptly served up back-to-back homers to Travis Hafner and Ezequiel Carrera. Another RBI double soon thereafter gave Cleveland a three-run lead that appeared massive as closer Chris Perez entered in the bottom half eyeing a save.

But after quickly recording a pair of outs, Perez walked two straight batters and then was promptly smacked for a RBI double by leadoff hitter Austin Jackson that cut the deficit to two. In his bid to keep the magic going, No. 2 hitter Omar Infante then stepped to the plate and slapped a blooper to center that plated both runners and inexplicably tied the score.

Knowing that he could end the game with one swing of the bat, Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera finally settled on a perfectly-located Perez fastball to absolutely crush into the bullpen in left, with a blast that virtually every soul in the stadium knew was gone upon first contact.

After pulling the rug out of their rivals and handing them their ninth consecutive loss in the process, the Tigers are now 58-50 overall and have won four straight games. Jim Leyland will hope that his squad can keep things going on Monday as they kick off a four-game set with the New York Yankees.

Tigers Vs. Indians: Ryan Raburn Hits Disabled List With Thumb Sprain

To say Tigers utility man Ryan Raburn has struggled this season would be putting it nicely. He's played in just 63 games this season and is hitting just .172 in 198 at-bats with a miniscule .483 OPS (on-base plus slugging).

He has not played since July 31 against Boston, and we now have a reason why:

Raburn has struggled with injuries throughout his Major League career, as he's missed at least 41 games in each of his five seasons since 2007.

He played in 113 games in both 2009 and 2010 and hit 31 home runs and drove in 107 runs combined during those two seasons, with an OPS above .800 both years.

Raburn played 121 games in 2011 but posted just a .256/.297/.432 slash line with a career-high 114 strikeouts.

Danny Worth, who the Tigers recalled from Triple-A Toledo to replace Raburn, hit .277 with five home runs and six stolen bases (.848 OPS) in 36 games with the Mud Hens this season.

Tigers Vs. Indians: Sunday Preview, TV Info And More

After outscoring the fading Cleveland Indians by a combined 16-3 score in the first two games of this series, the Detroit Tigers will turn to hard-throwing righty Max Scherzer in hopes of earning a home sweep.

Doug Fister pitched a gem Saturday for Detroit, going the distance while allowing just one run on four hits. Scherzer (10-6, 4.62) struck out nine Red Sox in his last outing but allowed five runs in 6 1/3. He faced this Indians lineup last Wednesday and allowed just two runs in seven innings, striking out eight.

Cleveland called up 28-year-old Chris Seddon, who last appeared in Major League Baseball in 2010 as a reliever with Seattle, where he posted a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings pitched. Seddon posted a 3.44 ERA at Triple-A Columbus this season.

Indians starting pitchers are 0-7 with a 12.08 ERA on Cleveland's nine-game road trip, so Seddon can't do much worse.

Tigers Vs. Indians Final Score: Starter Doug Fister Dominant In 6-1 Detroit Victory

Not even a 36-minute rain delay in the second inning could slow down Detroit pitcher Doug Fister on Saturday night from Motown, as the Tigers' right-hander put forth a complete game four-hit victory over the Cleveland Indians, 6-1.

Fister flirted with perfection as he promptly took a perfect game into the sixth inning, but was eventually bested on a triple from the bat of Indians outfielder Ezequiel Carrera with two outs in the frame. The 6-foot-8 righty recovered in a big way soon thereafter to reel off eight scoreless innings, despite serving up one run on a pair of hits to ruin his shutout in the ninth. Fister whiffed six batters and did not walk a single batter in the start, needing just 107 pitches to record 27 outs.

Offensively the Tigers were paced by shortstop Jhonny Peralta, who finished 2-for-4 from the plate with a double, triple and two RBI. Brennan Boesch also put forth a strong 2-for-4 effort to raise his season average to .251 that included his first triple of 2012. With a chance to pull off the three-game sweep of Manny Acta's Indians on Sunday, Detroit will send right-hander Max Scherzer to the hill for game three.

Tigers Vs. Indians Lineups For Game Two

The Detroit Tigers powered their way to a 10-2 dominating win over the Cleveland Indians on Friday, and they're looking to do more of the same in game two of the three-game set. He'll be up against Ubaldo Jimenez, who gave up five runs in just over six innings in his last outing, a loss.

Things are working right now for Detroit, so the lineup on Saturday isn't going to get many tweaks at all. Jhonny Peralta enters the lineup batting eighth and Delmon Young takes over at the designated hitter spot batting sixth. That's replacing Andy Dirks and Ramon Santiago, respectively.

Tigers Vs. Indians: Prince Fielder Powers 10-2 Win On Friday

The Detroit Tigers kept on swinging their hot bats on Friday night. Paced by Prince Fielder's four RBIs, the Tigers smacked 16 hits and scored 10 runs on their way to a 10-2 victory in the series opener against the Cleveland Indians.

Detroit went to the bottom of the third inning tied at 1-1. Fielder doubled in two runs to stake the Tigers to a lead that they would not relinquish. Fielder capped off a four-run fourth inning with his 18th homer of the year. Cleveland starter Justin Masterson was on the receiving end of the Tigers' offensive explosion, giving up seven runs in four innings.

Anibal Sanchez picked up his first win since being acquired by the Tigers. He pitched six innings, allowing just two runs, one earned. He struck out five and walked two.

The win puts Detroit two games behind the White Sox in the chase for the AL Central. Chicago is playing a late game on the West Coast in L.A.

Detroit and Cleveland are at it again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

Tigers Vs. Indians: Starting Lineups For Friday's Opener

In his first start in front of home fans at Comerica Park, recently acquired pitcher Anibal Sanchez will take the mound for the Detroit Tigers on Friday to open up a crucial three-game set with the Indians.

Sanchez was bombed for five earned runs on eight hits in his debut in a Tigers uniform back on July 28, but will hope to get the better of a Cleveland lineup that has struggled to produce much offensively as of late. In addition to a brutal six game losing streak, the Indians are just 3-11 on the road since the All-Star break with their complete lack of offensive production as the obvious culprit.

Tigers hitters will hope to have more success against Cleveland pitcher Justin Masterson this time around, after the 6-foot-6 righty held Detroit to a mere run over seven innings for a well-deserved victory back in May. Here are Friday's starting lineups:

Tigers
1. Austin Jackson - CF
2. Quintin Berry - LF
3. Miguel Cabrera - 3B
4. Prince Fielder - 1B
5. Brennan Boesch - DH
6. Andy Dirks - RF
7. Alex Avila - C
8. Ramon Santiago - SS
9. Omar Infante - 2B
Anibal Sanchez - SP

Indians
1. Jason Kipnis - 2B
2. Asdrubal Cabrera - SS
3. Shin-Soo Choo - RF
4. Carlos Santana - C
5. Michael Brantley - CF
6. Jose Lopez - DH
7. Casey Kotchman - 1B
8. Jack Hannahan - 3B
9. Ezequiel Carrera - LF
Justin Masterson - SP
